Our apprenticeship programme is supported by the Aerospace, Defence and Security business, which develops and delivers digital solutions for UK public and private sector clients. Combining Software Development and IT Operations (Dev/Ops) has helped us, and our customer, build, deploy and improve applications and infrastructure products at a quicker pace than traditional methodologies.

What you'll be doing:

You will assist one of our National Security accounts in support of securing our client’s digital estate in Gloucestershire. We will provide you with the skills you need to build a foundation of knowledge, on which you can build and grow. Just a few things you could be helping us with include:

  • Script and code in one general purpose and one domain-specific language to orchestrate infrastructure, follow test driven development and ensure appropriate test coverage.
  • Work as part of an agile team, explore new ways of working and rapidly respond to changing user needs with a steadfast focus on the user experience. Understand the importance of continual improvement within a blameless culture.
  • Provision cloud infrastructure using APIs, continually improve infrastructure-as-code, considering use of industry leading technologies.
  • Apply leading security practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Keep up with pioneering technologies by continual training and development, self-learning, active membership of professional bodies and subscription to relevant publications.
  • Look to automate any manual tasks that are repeated, often using APIs.

Entry requirements:

  • Level 3 Software apprenticeship
  • OR A-Level in a STEM subject (in Technology and Maths fields only) and successful completion of our Aptitude Test
  • OR BTEC Diploma in IT and successful completion of our Aptitude Test
  • OR two years' experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our Aptitude Test

Clearance requirements:

Must be willing to undergo government security clearance.

Nationality requirements:

  • Must be a UK National or have a naturalisation certificate
  • Must have lived in the UK for 4 out of the last 5 year

Security Clearance Level: the successful apprentice will be working on Sopra Steria's National security accounts therefore must be DV (Developed Vetting) eligible

Salary: £22,000 - £24,000

Benefits:

A fully funded Level 4 Apprenticeship in DevOps. 25 days annual leave with the choice to buy additional days, life assurance, pension, and generous flexible benefits fund. 3 paid volunteering days per year, and wider career opportunities available on completion of apprenticeship.
