Role Overview: 
As a NOC Engineer Apprentice here at Zen Internet, you will play a crucial role in our Network Operations Centre (NOC) team, supporting the stability and reliability of our network services. 
Under the mentorship of experienced engineers, you will gain practical experience and work towards becoming a competent professional in network operations. 

This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about networking technologies and seeking to kick-start their career in the ISP industry.

Salary:
From £22,500 + shift allowance. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Participation in Shift Rotation:

  • As part of a team, contribute to a 24/7/365 shift rotation to ensure continuous coverage.

Network Monitoring and Maintenance:

  • Support in the application of configuration changes, following our change control systems and processes.
  • Help deploy and maintain network monitoring, analysis, and reporting tools.
  • Participate in network troubleshooting and fault analysis; contribute to hardware troubleshooting and repair under supervision.
  • Assist in continuously monitoring the performance of the UK national network using Network Management Systems (NMS) and network management tools, reacting to live network events to ensure minimum disruption to services.

Incident Management:

  • Assist in providing an incident response during network or service failures under the guidance of more experienced colleagues.
  • Learn to generate and respond to fault tickets and interface with carriers, vendors, suppliers and internal teams, escalating issues when necessary.

Project Work:

  • Assist with the installation of network hardware and software under guidance.
  • Contribute to producing and maintaining project documentation in line with our project processes.

Change Management:

  • Assist in the change management process, learning to evaluate, plan, and implement network changes under supervision.
  • Document all changes made to the network, ensuring all records are accurate and up-to-date.

Personal Development:

  • Work towards gaining a thorough understanding of the operations and function of the Network Operations Centre.
  • Undergo training and mentoring as part of the apprenticeship program to continuously improve and develop technical skills and knowledge.
  • Seek and accept feedback, learning from each experience to improve performance and personal skills.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with team members, sharing information on network status and ongoing issues.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions.
  • Liaise effectively with other teams to ensure the smooth running of the network infrastructure.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all network incidents, issues, and changes.
  • Follow organisational policies, procedures, and standards related to network management.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for network configurations, routing policies, and network/system troubleshooting guides.

Entry requirements:

  • an A-Level in ICT
  • OR an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 ICT
  • OR an A-Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • OR a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Future prospects:
90% of QA Apprentices secure full-time employment after finishing their apprenticeship. 
Additionally there may be opportunities to undertake further apprenticeship training as many of our programs offer on-going development tracks.
