Overall purpose of the job:

Looking for an IT job where you are exposed to all technologies at all levels and knowledge is shared between all?

SDC Hosting and Support is looking for an Apprentice IT Support Systems Engineer to join their team.

The apprentice will be mentored, taught skills and knowledge required to develop into a multi-disciplined IT/Network Technician. 

The role offers long-term security and the opportunity to progress with further training.

You will be exposed to all technologies at various levels and everyone on the team helps each other. The role is a mixed role environment, with the opportunity to specialise in business relevant areas.

Salary:

£21,000 per annum.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Installing, configuring, and testing appropriate network components or devices securely to well-defined specifications physically and virtually
  • Optimising and maintaining the performance of network systems or services in line with well-defined specifications
  • Investigating and problem solve to address technical performance issues in networks to return the network to successful operation and escalate as necessary
  • Interpreting written requirements and technical specifications in relation to delivery of network systems and services
  • Use operational data to manage weekly work schedule in an efficient and cost-effective way
  • Communicating technical network requirements effectively and professionally with a range of stakeholders ensuring stakeholder relationships are maintained
  • Practice continuous self-learning to keep up to date with technological developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for own professional development
  • Incorporating considerations of the requirements of the wider digital context in which they operate to ensure that network engineering activities are carried out effectively
  • Ensure all network engineering activity complies with organisational policies, technical standards, health and safety legislation, data security requirements, professional ethics, privacy, and confidentiality
  • Deliver services under pressures such as timescale, SLA's or budget
  • Keeping ticket systems up to date to ensure effective communication with end users
  • Communication with management, suppliers and end users 

The requirements listed below are considered to either be essential to successfully undertake the duties and responsibilities of the post or are considered highly desirable.

Desired experience / skills: 

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Microsoft Office

Preferably:

  • Driving license and own transport [travelling can be key]
  • Ability to work under pressure

  • To be a confident communicator with an exceptional listening ability and a good telephone manner
  • Self-motivation
  • Able to follow company procedures
  • You will need to be able to work unsupervised
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to contribute and to learn
  • To have an open yet, methodical approach, using best practice and trusted procedures 

Entry requirements:

  • An A-Level in ICT
  • OR an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 ICT
  • OR an A-Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • OR a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working week:

40hrs a week.

Upon completion of the Apprenticeship, there is an opportunity to become a full time employee of SCL Communications Ltd.

To be eligible for a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years.
