An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Apprentice Patient Services Advisor to join the Murieston Medical Practice.

This will be a 1-year apprenticeship where the successful applicant will work towards a Diploma with QA, receiving support and mentoring throughout the placement. 

The Patient Services team provide a full reception service to patients and healthcare professionals within and outside the Practice. The department also ensures patient records are accurate, prescriptions are produced, and all information is actioned appropriately.

Murieston Medical practice, which is part of the wider NHS Scotland network, provides a healthcare service to the local and surrounding area.

What's Involved?

You will receive on the job training and mentoring to achieve the following key objectives:

  • Provide a professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, management & other health service professionals
  • Work effectively and unsupervised in often complex and unpredictable circumstances
  • Understand and contribute fully to the functioning of both the reception and the wider Practice team
  • Make use of your own judgement, resourcefulness, common-sense and local knowledge to respond to patients’ enquiries.
  • Make decisions to ensure the smooth running of the reception service in accordance with Practice protocols and policies.
  • Be part of a small team but also able to work alone when necessary

In addition, there will be structured training provided by QA and an opportunity to obtain a professional Digital qualification. It is anticipated that a successful apprentice will have the opportunity to progress within the practice and further within the NHS network if desired.

  • Are you aged 16-19 and want to work in Patient Services whilst getting your Diploma?
  • Do you understand the importance of patient confidentiality and workplace security?
  • Do you have a willingness to learn new skills and take instruction?
  • Do you have a friendly nature for building relationships with people and want to work as part of a busy team?
  • Do you have the enthusiasm and determination to make a positive impact using good verbal and written communication skills?
  • Do you have a positive attitude to support colleagues delivering patient care?
  • Are you a good communicator?
  • Are you able to prioritise your workload?

Additional Information:

  • Salary - £ £17,422.28 per annum
  • Future Salary - To be discussed on completion of apprenticeship
  • Working Hours - 37.5hrs per week Mon- Fri: 7.30am – 3.30pm and 10am – 6pm on rotation
