Overview:
You'll have the opportunity to gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience as you complete a L3 Software Development Technician Apprenticeship.
The software engineer apprentice will develop personal and technical skills and knowledge to enable them to create and support the delivery of high-quality software, support incident management and help resolve problems when they arise.
Main duties:
- Participate in work prioritisation, work estimation and planning following agile scrum methodology.
- Participate in reviews of designs for software applications to verify they meet requirements, typically from User Stories.
- The writing and maintenance of application source code that adheres to standards and quality requirements.
- The creation and maintenance of applications following the process of conceiving, specifying, designing, programming, documenting, testing, and bug fixing.
- Provide input to the analysis of business requirements, breakdown requirements and design specifications and contribute to the creation of technical user stories.
- Participate in peer reviews of coded solutions produced by team members to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
- Provide technical expertise and assist the technical lead and project manager in removing blockers.
- Liaise with varied teams to resolve any cross-function issues and escalate where necessary.

Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include:
- Hobbies or voluntary work
- Previous work experience
- Engineering related school subjects
- Ideally able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, e.g., through part time employment and/or voluntary activities
- Awareness of C#, .NET and SQL would be advantageous
Entry requirements:
- 5 GCSE’s [especially English, Mathematics and a science or technology subject]
- Other relevant qualifications and experience
- Or an aptitude test with a focus on IT skills
You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject.
Future prospects:
92% of QA Apprentices secure permanent employment after finishing their apprenticeship. Additionally, there may be opportunities to undertake further apprenticeship training as many of our programs offer on-going development tracks.
