Overview: 

It’s an exciting time to be joining our Platform team as we’ve just migrated the majority of our infrastructure from a data-centre to Google Cloud Platform which has led to the recent creation of a Junior Platform Engineer position and would be well suited to those seeking further exposure in this area with great training and support on offer. 

Training pathways: 

We have partnered with QA ltd to offer the opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake a level 4 apprenticeship in software engineering. 

The course supports with on-the-job training and access to QA's amazing learner platform. 

As part of the apprenticeship, you'll receive access to live classroom sessions and skills coaches to help guide you through the course. 
QA are the market leaders in digital education and training, so rest assured you'll have access to some of the best training and instructors in the sector. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Help to ensure Security, reliability, and performance of all our platforms
  • Contribute to developing standardised solutions for servers, networks and deployments
  • Automate as much of our processes as possible by creation and maintenance of tools
  • Work with development teams to engineer system wide solutions
  • Help to maintain and improve the quality and standards of the engineering team
  • Empower other teams with self-service solutions 

What we are looking for: 

Desired skills and experience: 
Some Experience of the following would be of beneficial:

  • Using Cloud and Cloud based services
  • SQL databases, particularly MySQL/MariaDB
  • Infrastructure as code / Cloud automation tooling such as terraform
  • Configuration management tooling such as puppet
  • Some basic knowledge of networking would be an advantage too
  • Containerization technologies/methodologies such as docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration tooling and processes (Jenkins, and GitHub actions
    in particular)
  • Scripting / Programming knowledge with things such as Bash, Python Golang and Perl
  • Some things still need moving to the cloud so Data-centre experience would also be of
    benefit too 

Entry requirements: 

  • Level 3 Software apprenticeship, or
  • A Level in a STEM subject (within the Technology and Maths fields only) and successful completion of our Aptitude Test, or
  • BTEC Diploma in IT and successful completion of our Aptitude Test, or
  • A minimum of 12 months of experience within the last 24 months or 18 months in the last 36 months in an IT role.

Specific roles that are acceptable are: 

  • IT Support roles e.g. Help Desk, First line 
  • Software testing or any work that utilises basic coding 
  • Any other technical job that uses IT equipment or software 
  • Any data analytics or reporting related role 

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme. The learners would still be required to successfully pass the Aptitude Test at first attempt. 

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Salary range: 

£18,018 to £20,000 per annum. 

Working week: 

Monday to Friday, 

35 hours per week.
